Located just a stone’s throw from the stunning Devil’s Punch Bowl, we’re a popular stop for walkers, families, and dog-lovers alike. Walkers Welcome
The Hound & Heather sits right on the doorstep of the Devil’s Punch Bowl — one of Surrey’s most spectacular natural landscapes and a National Trust site on Hindhead Commons. Whether you’re tackling the full circular walk around the bowl, heading out along the Greensand Way, or simply stretching your legs on the heathland trails, we’re the perfect place to start, finish, or reward yourself after a walk.
Muddy boots, wet dogs, and windswept hair are all absolutely welcome here. We have water bowls and dog treats at the ready, a warm fire in winter, and a sunny front terrace in summer. Our free car park makes us an ideal base for your walk.
Popular walking routes from our door:
- Devil’s Punch Bowl Circular — 3.5 miles, moderate. A stunning loop around the bowl with panoramic Surrey Hills views. Start and finish at our car park.
- Hindhead Commons & Gibbet Hill — 4.5 miles, moderate. Head up to the highest point in Surrey for incredible views across three counties.
- Greensand Way — Variable distance. The long-distance trail passes right through Hindhead — join it here and explore in either direction.
If you’re visiting us after a countryside stroll, our Ramblers Lunch is the perfect reward. Available Monday to Friday from 12–3pm, this £16 deal includes a comforting bowl of homemade soup, a sandwich of your choice, and a hot drink to warm you up. It’s a firm favourite among walkers coming from the Devil’s Punch Bowl — and of course, we always have treats ready for your dogs too.
Step inside our spectacular pub, built in the late 1800s, and be greeted by three cosy fireplaces, two beautifully refurbished dining rooms, and a snug bar area. Whether you’re looking for a spot to enjoy a casual meal or celebrate a special occasion, our warm and inviting atmosphere makes every visit memorable.
